Behavioral based emergencies make up between 33% to 45% of the 911 calls in many jurisdictions around the world and certainly within the United States. However, many EMT and Paramedic programs receive little to no training on this subject. Most EMS textbooks have very few pages dedicated to mental health and behavioral crisis and the ones that do have no protocol information to share on how to respond to these calls for service. This course is a first step in addressing these systemic issues in providing meaningful crisis responses.
