Course Description:
In this engaging and informative presentation, a communications professor and paramedic works to explore hypnosis as a tool for helping distressed emergency patients. Participants will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the latest research on hypnosis and its potential applications within an emergency setting. The session not only equips EMS workers with knowledge but also with practical skills to build rapport and establish credibility with their patients. Participants will learn how to employ hypnotic directives to stimulate the mind-body connection, thus facilitating healing. This presentation aims to enhance the efficacy of EMS workers by introducing them to innovative, non-invasive techniques to improve patient outcomes.
Course objectives:
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify and implement the mnemonic for the word “credible” which represents Confidence, Rapport, Expectation, Directives, Images, Believability, Literalness, and Enthusiasm.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the research into hypnosis and nocemic communication for the distressed emergency patient.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify signs that an emergency patient is in a trance.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to implement rapport-building techniques that ensure provider credibility.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to give direct and indirect positive reassurance statements.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to use hypnotic directives that employ visualization to reduce pain and anxiety.
- Upon completion, the participant will create their own “the worst is over” reassurance statement.
